Tattoo Pigment Travels to Lymph Nodes, Prolonging Inflammation in Mice

A mouse study published in PNAS shows tattoo pigment quickly reaches draining lymph nodes within hours, is taken up by macrophages but not cleared, and sustains inflammatory signals for at least two months. When vaccines were administered into tattooed tissue, the mice exhibited a weaker antibody response, a pattern echoed in cultured human cells, though this is not a conclusion about humans and requires validation through trials.

Air pollution reduces effectiveness of Covid vaccine: Study

A new study has found that higher levels of air pollution can lower Covid-19 vaccine responses by 5% to 10%. The study analysed data from 927 participants who received one or two doses of the primary Covid-19 vaccines administered in Spain. The decrease in antibodies was shown both for early IgM responses and late responses measured by IgG. The fact that previous infections lead to higher vaccine responses could explain why the effect of pollutants was only observed in people without a prior infection.
