Trump Admin Centralizes Help for Defaulted Student Loans on Studentaid.gov
The Education Department plans to streamline repayment for defaulted federal student loans by migrating the MyEdDebt platform to studentaid.gov, centralizing defaulted-loan services under Federal Student Aid. The move comes as defaults rise (about 7.7 million borrowers in default by end-2025) and amid a temporary pause on wage garnishments and tax-refund seizures while new repayment changes take effect July 1; the department also plans to eventually transfer defaulted accounts to the Treasury, though timelines are unclear.
