Skyrim Username Mix-Up Triggers Reversal of Wrongful Imprisonment
A Wisconsin man, Brandon Klayme, spent 18 months in prison after investigators mistakenly matched his one-underscore Skyrim username to a suspect, basing the case on digital evidence tied to the account's email and IP. The actual target reportedly used a two-underscore version (fus__ro_dah), and the error led to his conviction in 2023. After his appeal, the sentence and related orders were overturned, with the court noting the correct username would have pointed investigators to someone in California instead.
