TRISO-X Completes Core Structure for Tennessee Nuclear Fuel Plant, Targets 2028 Production

TRISO-X has finished the vertical construction of its 215,000-square-foot nuclear fuel plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, completing the core and shell phase three months behind schedule. The facility is designed to produce 700,000 uranium pebbles annually for up to 11 advanced reactors. While the building envelope is complete, the interior manufacturing equipment has not yet been installed, with production targeted for early 2028.

Amazon-Backed X-Energy IPO Spurs SMR Rivalry as Oklo, NuScale Drop

X-Energy’s Nasdaq debut surged about 27% on its first day, drawing investor interest and pushing valuation near $12 billion, while existing SMR players Oklo and NuScale Power fell on the news. The $1 billion IPO, led by Amazon and others, intensifies competition in the small modular reactor space as Nvidia ties reinforce Oklo’s position and analysts point to upside in NuScale. The move highlights continued market attention on clean energy tech and AI-powered demand driving nuclear stock dynamics.

X-energy plots IPO path to expand its small modular reactor push

Amazon-backed X-energy has filed a draft S-1 for an IPO, aiming to list in early summer to capitalize on rising demand for nuclear power driven by data centers and AI. The Texas-based SMR developer is building the Xe-100 helium-cooled reactor and has contracts with Centrica and Dow; it has NRC fuel-production licensing but not full NRC approval to build the reactor. Lead underwriters are JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Jefferies and Moelis. If successful, X-energy would join Nano Nuclear, NuScale and Oklo as publicly traded SMR players amid a broader wave of nuclear-tech listings.

Amazon-backed X-Energy wins half-century U.S. nuclear fuel license

X-Energy, backed by Amazon, just won the first U.S. nuclear fuel license in more than 50 years, allowing enriched-uranium fuel production at two Tennessee facilities for the next 40 years with production slated to begin in 2028; the license supports Amazon’s plan to power AI data centers with carbon-free nuclear energy and comes alongside a $500 million Amazon investment in X-Energy for SMR development.
