Inside Novo Nordisk's Wegovy: The Science and Strategy Behind the Weight-Loss Drug

Novo Nordisk is investing billions of dollars to increase production and alleviate shortages of its popular weight-loss drug, Wegovy. The Danish drugmaker relies on various companies for the production of Wegovy, including Catalent and Thermo Fisher for fill-finish services, and PCI Pharma Services for assembly and packaging. Novo produces the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for Wegovy in its Danish facilities. The Wegovy injection pens for the US market differ slightly from those in European markets, and several companies, such as Ypsomed, West Pharmaceutical Services, Stevenato Group, Gerresheimer, and SCHOTT Pharma, are involved in manufacturing the components for these pens. Novo Nordisk expects US demand for Wegovy to outpace supply until 2024.
