Forecasters Predict Uncertain 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season with 12-17 Named Storms Possible.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts a "near-normal" hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean, with 12 to 17 named tropical cyclones, including 5 to 9 hurricanes and 1 to 4 major hurricanes. The developing El Niño is expected to reduce hurricane formation, but warmer-than-average temperatures in the Atlantic and an above-normal West African monsoon could fuel hurricanes. Climate change is making hurricanes more powerful and affecting the amount of rainfall, storm surge, rapid intensification, and reach of tropical systems.
