Two EF-1 Tornadoes Roared Through Anne Arundel During Tuesday Storms

Two EF-1 tornadoes touched down in Anne Arundel County during Tuesday’s storms in the D.C. region: a 100 mph tornado near Lake Shore that stayed on the ground about two minutes and stretched roughly three-quarters of a mile, and a second tornado on Lake Drive in Arnold for about a minute; two more tornadoes were detected on the Eastern Shore. The storms caused widespread damage, including a collapsed gas-station canopy in Northwest D.C., downed trees and power lines, hail, and minor flooding in parts of Montgomery County, Northwest D.C., and areas around Fredericksburg and Harpers Ferry. Officials credited advance warnings for preventing casualties as damage assessments continue.
