Stunning Photos Capture the Final Supermoon of 2023

The Harvest Moon, a supermoon, delighted sky-watchers around the world as it rose this week. This full moon also sets the stage for a rare annular "ring of fire" solar eclipse on October 14, visible in the U.S., Central America, and South America. The moon's elliptical orbit brings it closer to Earth during perigee, making it appear larger in the sky. As the moon reaches apogee during the next new moon, it will swing farther away. The eclipse occurs when the moon's path intersects the sun's path, creating a ring around the new moon. The next full moon, the Hunter's Moon, will still intercept the ecliptic, but won't turn red like a Blood Moon.
