The Controversy Continues: Betelgeuse's Supernova Timing Debated

A team of astronomers from Tohoku University suggests that Betelgeuse, the bright red supergiant star, could explode in the next few decades, contrary to most recent studies that agree it won't happen in our lifetimes. The team's claim is based on how often the star pulses, or brightens and dims. However, other astronomers argue that the data gathered over the years doesn't point to Betelgeuse being big enough or old enough to explode anytime soon.
