Ancient star PicII-503 rewrites early universe history
Scientists using the Dark Energy Camera identified PicII-503, an iron-poor second-generation star in the ultra-faint dwarf galaxy Pictor II, with iron about 1/40,000 that of the Sun and a carbon overabundance, providing a fossil record of how the first stars enriched later generations and shedding light on primordial element production in the early universe.
