"Unprecedented Discovery: Astronomers Find Impossible Galaxy"

A team of astronomers, led by Arizona State University Assistant Research Scientist Tim Carleton, has discovered a dwarf galaxy, PEARLSDG, using James Webb Space Telescope imaging. This galaxy, which appeared in the imaging unexpectedly, challenges current understanding of galaxy evolution as it is an isolated quiescent galaxy that is not forming new stars. The discovery suggests that many more isolated quiescent galaxies may exist, and the James Webb Space Telescope has the capability to identify them. The research was presented at the 243 AAS press conference.
