Unveiling the Mysteries of the Supernova Neutrino Background

Astronomers believe that there is a background of neutrinos scattered across the universe from supernova explosions, and they hope to map the historical distribution of these explosions by 2035. The "diffuse supernova neutrino background" (DSNB) could potentially reveal the number of stars that have gone supernova since the Big Bang. Instruments like the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) and the Super Kwmiokande detector in Japan are being used to study the DSNB and refine models. While the DSNB has not been detected yet, researchers are optimistic about the possibility of detecting it within the next decade and using the observations to understand the rate of supernova explosions throughout the universe's evolution.
