"Webb Telescope Discovers Early Universe's Fuel in Supernovae Debris"

The Webb Space Telescope has observed two supernovae in the Fireworks Galaxy, NGC 6946, ejecting dust into their surroundings, providing evidence that these violent stellar deaths can contribute to the formation of new star systems. The observations, made using Webb's Mid-Infrared instrument, revealed a significant amount of dust surrounding the supernovae, with SN 2004et alone containing 5,000 Earth masses worth of dust. This finding supports the hypothesis that dying stars can act as "dust factories" in the universe. The study suggests that the remaining targets in the science program GO 2666 may further confirm this phenomenon.
