Boosting Cognitive Function in Older Adults: 3 Easy Activities

A recent study published in BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine reveals that playing an 18-hole round of golf or completing 6 km of Nordic or regular walking can significantly improve immediate cognitive function in older adults. The study involved 25 healthy older golfers and assessed cognitive function using the Trail-Making Test (TMT) A and B. The results showed that all three exercises improved lower cognitive functions measured by the TMT-A test, while Nordic and regular walking also enhanced executive functions measured by the TMT-B test. These findings highlight the value of age-appropriate aerobic exercise, such as golf and walking, in maintaining and enhancing cognitive function in older adults.
