Ancient 'Fleeing Vampire' Squid: Glowing Organs and Prey-Snatching Suckers

New research on fossils has revealed the existence of an ancient squid species called Vampyrofugiens atramentum, also known as the "fleeing vampire," which lived 165 million years ago. This squid had unique vampire-like features, including glow-in-the-dark organs, eight arms with prey-snatching suckers, and an ink sac for defense. Modern imaging techniques allowed researchers to study the internal organs of the fossils in detail, providing new insights into the morphology and evolution of octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish.
