A series of geomagnetic storms this week has increased the chances of seeing the Northern Lights across more of the northern U.S. this weekend. The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a Level G2 Geomagnetic Storm Watch for Saturday and Sunday, as a coronal mass ejection (CME) is expected to arrive on Saturday. This level of storm can cause power system issues, require course corrections for orbiting objects, and create problems with radio waves. The aurora forecast shows the lights stretching from northern Oregon to central Iowa to interior New York, and experts recommend getting away from city lights for the best view.
