A new species of millipede, named the Los Angeles thread millipede, has been discovered just four inches underground in a hiking area near Los Angeles. The translucent and sinuous creature, about the length of a paperclip, has 486 legs and a helmet-like head. It relies on hornlike antennae to navigate since it is blind.
