Kentuckians captivated by stunning early morning meteor

A bright meteor explosion, described as a "fireball," was spotted by several people in southeastern Kentucky early Wednesday morning. The event was captured on camera by Shellbie Powers of Somerset. Mark Pitts, an associate professor of physics, explained that the meteor was larger-than-average, resulting in a more violent explosion. The American Meteor Society received over 60 sightings, with many occurring in Kentucky. Such sightings of large meteors are rare, and being in the right place at the right time is crucial to witnessing them.
