Near-miss asteroid to pass harmlessly between Earth and moon.

An asteroid estimated to be between 130 and 300 feet in size will pass harmlessly between Earth and the moon's orbit this weekend, offering astronomers a rare opportunity to study it up close. While asteroid flybys are common, it's rare for one so big to come so close. The asteroid, known as 2023 DZ2, won't be back until 2026, and there is no chance of it striking Earth. The close approach offers a great opportunity for observations and practice for planetary defense if and when a dangerous asteroid heads our way.
