Solar Storms wreak havoc on Earth and Space technology.

A group of researchers from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and the Catholic University of America have identified the cause of the loss of 49 Starlink satellites in February 2022. The satellites were affected by atmospheric drag caused by a geomagnetic storm resulting from a coronal mass ejection from the Sun. The storm thickened the atmosphere, causing the satellites to deorbit and burn up on the way down. The loss of the satellites highlights the need to strengthen technology against solar storms, which can also disrupt power grids and communication lines on Earth. Solar physicists continue to study these solar outbursts to improve prediction methods.
