"UVU Professor's Groundbreaking Discovery: CO2 Found on Distant Exoplanet"

Professor Joshua Lothringer from Utah Valley University has helped discover the presence of carbon dioxide on an exoplanet located 700 lightyears away from Earth. Using the James Webb Space Telescope, Lothringer and an international team of scientists observed a distant star and measured its light over time to detect the presence of an exoplanet. The exoplanet, named Hot Jupiter WASP-39b, is about the size of Jupiter and has a temperature of approximately 2,000 degrees. This research contributes to the understanding of exoplanet atmospheres and paves the way for future exploration of smaller, potentially habitable planets.
