Firefly's Blue Ghost Lander: Paving the Way for Lunar Water Exploration

Firefly Aerospace's upcoming mission to the far side of the Moon will include a payload called SPIDER (Seismic Payload for Interplanetary Discovery, Exploration, and Research) developed by Australia's Fleet Space Technologies. SPIDER will capture seismic data from the lunar surface for up to 14 days, providing insights into the Moon's subsurface composition and the presence of water ice. This information is crucial for future infrastructure development and sustaining human life beyond Earth. The mission is part of the Australian Space Agency's Moon to Mars initiative and aligns with NASA's efforts to use the Moon as a gateway to Mars. Firefly Aerospace aims to provide private and public customers with access to space and has already secured contracts with NASA for lunar payload deliveries.
