"Rare Meteorite Traced Back to Earth's Origins"

Scientists presented data at the Goldschmidt Conference on geochemistry suggesting that the meteorite NWA 13188, found in the Sahara desert in 2018, is actually from Earth. The meteorite shares the same chemical composition as volcanic rock on Earth and shows signs of exposure to cosmic rays in space for around 10,000 years. Researchers believe it was initially ejected from Earth after an asteroid impact or volcanic eruption, traveled in orbit around the Sun, and then fell back to Earth. Further analysis is needed to confirm this hypothesis and determine the meteorite's age and journey.
