NASA's Ingenuity Mars helicopter is preparing for its longest flight ever this weekend, covering 2,717 feet (828 meters) of Mars ground, surpassing its current distance record of 2,310 feet (704 m). The helicopter, which landed on Mars in February 2021, has been serving as a scout for NASA's Perseverance rover, and this extended mission aims to demonstrate the feasibility of aerial exploration on Mars. The upcoming flight will target a top speed of 22.4 mph (36 kph) and a maximum altitude of 33 feet (10 m), lasting 147 seconds. So far, Ingenuity has accumulated 67 flights, 121 minutes of air time, and covered approximately 9.5 miles (15.3 kilometers) of ground.
