Multiple Massive Holes in Sun's Atmosphere Pose Threat to Earth

Another massive hole in the Sun's atmosphere has been detected, which may lead to an increase in geomagnetic activity and provide another chance to spot aurorae. The hole is a region in the Sun's corona that is cooler than the rest due to open unipolar magnetic fields, allowing the solar wind to move away more freely and quickly. Forecasting from the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute shows an increase in geomagnetic activity for Thursday and Friday this week, but the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency has yet to announce forecasting for those days.
