The car-sized rover, along with its companion, the Ingenuity helicopter, landed in Mars' Jezero Crater in February 2021. Perseverance has been exploring the crater's floor, searching for signs of ancient life. The mission has revealed that Jezero Crater was once a lake, making it a potentially habitable environment. The rover has also been collecting and caching samples, with the hope of returning them to Earth in the 2030s. The Ingenuity helicopter, originally planned for a five-flight campaign, has completed 62 flights and continues to operate as a scout for Perseverance.
