Starlink's Crowded Sky Triggers Rising Collision Risk

SpaceX’s Starlink megaconstellation has carried out over 355,000 collision-avoidance maneuvers in the past year (Dec 2025–May 2026), averaging roughly 40 maneuvers per satellite as the fleet grows from about 6,000 to over 10,000. Experts warn that this rapid increase in traffic raises the risk of an on‑orbit collision with an operational Starlink satellite, and regulators are being urged to require upfront disclosure of predicted avoidance needs and fuel/automation capabilities to manage future growth and cross‑constellation congestion.
