NATO jets down foreign drone over Latvia amid Russian EW tactics
NATO Baltic Air Policing fighters shot down a foreign unmanned aerial vehicle over Latvia’s Balvi region, with Latvia saying the drone entered Latvian airspace as a result of Russian electromagnetic warfare. Airspace alerts were lifted after the drone was destroyed; Finland briefly restricted airspace in the Gulf of Finland as a precaution. Latvia’s leaders stressed the need to strengthen eastern-border surveillance and anti-drone capabilities, noting multiple drone incursions linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine, including a similar June incident.
