Excel breaks decades-old single-value rule with new multi-cell array feature
Microsoft is testing a major structural change in Excel that allows single cells to store lists, arrays, and nested arrays, breaking the decades-old one-value-per-cell limitation. The feature, currently in beta for Microsoft 365 Insiders, introduces new functions like HAS, HAS ANY, and FLATTEN to manage complex data structures. While it enables compact data handling and easier filtering, support for conditional formatting, pivot tables, and charts remains limited.
