The Link Between Blood Clots and Post-Covid Brain Fog
Oxford University researchers have suggested that blood clots may be the cause of post-Covid brain fog experienced by individuals who were hospitalized with the virus. A study found that patients with cognitive problems had high levels of two proteins involved in clotting. The excess clotting during a Covid infection could potentially lead to long-term damage, causing cognitive issues. Blood clots can result in a lack of blood supply to the brain or fatigue, both of which can contribute to cognitive problems. The findings may apply to infected individuals who were not hospitalized, and researchers hope to identify predictors and mechanisms to treat long-term cognitive problems in Covid-19 patients.
