
Turkey bars US LGBTQ+ cruise from docking over ‘moral standards’
Turkish authorities blocked Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady, part of Atlantis Events’ Athens-to-Venice LGBTQ+ cruise, from docking in Kuşadası and Istanbul, citing “moral standards” and “family values.” Atlantis plans to reroute to Cairo and Crete, with about 1,100 of the roughly 1,900 passengers from the United States; officials have framed the group as incompatible with Turkish society, and the move comes amid longstanding tensions over LGBTQ+ rights in Turkey.
