Israel warns of retaliation as UK weighs sanctions over West Bank settlements
Israel warned it would retaliate if Britain imposes sanctions over West Bank settlements as UK foreign secretary Ed Miliband pledges a “comprehensive reset” of policy, including steps to curb financing, construction, or advertising of settlements. Israel’s Gideon Saar insisted that if Britain acts against Israel, Israel will act against Britain, while Miliband’s remarks came amid Israel’s recent tendering of about 1,200 settlement homes in the strategic E1 area east of Jerusalem, a move condemned for potentially imperiling a two-state solution and drawing renewed international scrutiny.
