Glacier Calving Moment Reshapes Climate Truth for Skeptic Turned Believer
Photographer James Balog’s Greenland footage captured the largest glacier calving event ever filmed, a watershed moment that helped shift him from climate-skeptic to climate-believer. The footage shows a chunk of ice the size of lower Manhattan breaking off and entering the sea, an unprecedented geological event caught on camera during the Extreme Ice Survey. Balog’s 15-year project produced over 1.5 million images and a follow-up documentary, Chasing Time, documenting the immediacy of climate change for future audiences.
