The scanning tasks, which are part of the Wayfarer feature used by Niantic to collect location data, have been deemed "ridiculous" and "dumb" by players. Some players have found a workaround by keeping one scanning task at all times to prevent receiving additional ones.

Completing Field Research tasks is an easy way to get items needed to evolve, power up, or catch Pokemon. Players can obtain tasks by spinning the Disc of the nearest PokeStop. Collecting 7 stamps will grant players important rewards and an encounter with the monthly Breakthrough Pokemon.
