Kathleen Kennedy calls her exit from Lucasfilm a 'relief' after 14 years
Kathleen Kennedy has admitted to feeling 'a bit of relief' after stepping down as Lucasfilm president earlier in 2026, ending a 14-year tenure that began just before Disney acquired the studio for $4.05 billion. In an interview at Bloomberg's Screentime event, Kennedy described the role as an 'incredible challenge' and noted that George Lucas gave her minimal written guidance, stating that the creative direction was 'all in her head.' She cited the 2015 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' and the Disney+ series 'Andor' as her proudest achievements, while acknowledging the difficulty of balancing fan expectations with original storytelling. Kennedy is now returning to independent producing with her husband, Frank Marshall, though she will still produce the upcoming 'Star Wars: Starfighter' film. She expressed concern about the potential merger of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery, warning that it could reduce the number of movies produced to as few as 30 per year.
