USA Network's Anna Pigeon, based on Nevada Barr's novels, follows a Glacier National Park ranger as she investigates crimes; despite Tracy Spiridakos's strong performance and stunning scenery, the series feels like a dull, formulaic procedural with recycled twists and underdeveloped subplots, though a pair of episodes hints at a bigger conspiracy.
An experienced Florida hiker, 33-year-old Anthony Pollio, vanished during a sunset hike on Glacier National Park’s Mt. Brown Trail and was later found dead with injuries consistent with a bear attack; a bear spray canister was recovered at the scene and pollio’s identity was confirmed by his family. He had been aiming to reach a fire lookout tower to watch the sunset. Glacier’s Bear Management Plan euthanizes bears that pose a danger, and the last fatal bear attack in the park was in 1998, with another bear-related injury reported near Yellowstone earlier this week.
Search crews found the body of 33-year-old Anthony Pollio of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in a densely wooded area of Glacier National Park with injuries consistent with a bear encounter; the park closed the trail section where the body was discovered, and officials note that fatal bear attacks are rare but bears can become bolder around human food sources.

Researchers and citizen science volunteers are teaming up to study the population of pikas in Glacier National Park, as the tiny rabbit-like creatures are losing habitat due to climate change. Volunteers collect and catalog pika pellets, which contain skin cells that will be analyzed for DNA to understand genetic connectivity and movement patterns. The study aims to assess changes in population density and identify key connectivity corridors to mitigate declining isolated populations. Early signs suggest that pikas are doing well in the park, but a full genetic map will not be available until the study concludes next year.
A five-year-old female grizzly bear in Glacier National Park was euthanized after exhibiting increasingly aggressive behavior due to receiving multiple food rewards from unsecured sources. The bear had obtained unsecured human food from a campsite picnic table and aggressively charged a family picnicking on the shoreline. This is the first food-conditioned grizzly bear to be euthanized in the park since 2009. Park visitors are urged to take steps to prevent bears from becoming food conditioned and to report all bear sightings to the nearest ranger.

The bear approached the hikers on a narrow path, but fortunately changed course at the last moment and walked down the hill instead. Grizzly bears are a threatened species in the contiguous United States and are known to avoid humans when possible. The National Park Service provides safety tips for bear encounters, including speaking in a low voice, appearing large, and traveling in groups.
