Successful Hemophilia Cure Trial Conducted on Israelis.

Israeli researchers participated in an international clinical trial that successfully cured patients suffering from hemophilia, a serious genetic condition that causes spontaneous bleeding in muscles and joints. The researchers inserted a healthy gene into the liver of the participants, replacing the defective gene that causes the condition. All Israeli participants were cured of the disease, and six patients still had moderate hemophilia but with significantly decreased bleeding. The trial involved 134 patients from 50 medical centers across 30 countries and was conducted by BioMarin, which has submitted the treatment for FDA approval.
