MLB to Erase Player Images from Websites Ahead of December Lockout
MLB is preparing to remove all player images and videos from its official websites if a lockout begins after the collective bargaining agreement expires on December 2. This move, detailed in a memo from Deputy Commissioner Dan Halem, aims to prevent the use of player likenesses during a work stoppage. While the league cites competitive balance and payroll disparity as reasons for its proposed salary cap, the 2026 postseason has challenged this narrative, with four of the five remaining teams having low payrolls. The potential lockout threatens to disrupt the 2027 season and broadcast revenue, with public opinion currently favoring the players.
