Talkie: A 13B AI Trained on Pre-1930 Texts Speaks in Old-Timey Prose
Talkie is a 13-billion-parameter language model trained exclusively on pre-1930 texts (books, newspapers, etc.) to mimic early 20th-century speech. It can hold vintage conversations but shows temporal leakage, producing anachronistic claims and lacking true awareness of its cutoff. Early tests reveal limited programming ability and speculative forecasts about the future, highlighting the challenges of learning modern concepts from a single historical window and raising questions about what era-bound models could truly discover or achieve.
