A magnetotactic bacterium, Magnetospirillum magneticum AMB-1, extended the average lifespan of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans by 43.39% and preserved neurological and intestinal health in older worms, likely by inhibiting ferroptosis through reduced iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation; magnetosome production was essential for the effect, while a non-magnetotactic strain showed no benefit.
