NC Physician Assistant Reprimanded for Poor Monitoring and Overdose Link

The North Carolina Medical Board reprimanded James John Rapalje, P.A., after an investigation found deficient prescribing practices, inadequate patient monitoring, and poor documentation affecting multiple patients, including one who died from an overdose. Rapalje prescribed benzodiazepines (Xanax) and Adderall over years without pill counts, drug screenings, or checks of the North Carolina Controlled Substances Reporting System, and failed to reassess or counsel on long-term benzodiazepine risks. The board also noted supervision concerns by his son. Rapalje inactivated his NC PA license in February 2026; the consent order admitted unprofessional conduct and the reprimand will be made public and reported to NPDB.

The board's proposed guidelines advise doctors to carefully document their decision-making but provide few specifics, prompting criticism from opponents who argue that more should be done to protect doctors from prosecution. The board's decision comes after the Texas Supreme Court ruled against a woman seeking an abortion for a fatal fetal condition, and the public now has an opportunity to comment on the proposed guidelines.

Ignoring Complaints: Woman Claims Safety of Child at Risk Due to Neglected Physician Sex Abuse Allegations

Court documents reveal that Lynn Lindaman, a retired physician from central Iowa, has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a child born in 2015. The victim alleges that Lindaman inappropriately touched them on multiple occasions. Sherri Moler, who claims to have been sexually assaulted by Lindaman in 1975, says she had raised concerns about him at Iowa Board of Medicine meetings since 2020 but was dismissed. Moler believes that if action had been taken earlier, the child's abuse could have been prevented. The Iowa Board of Medicine stated that they take complaints seriously but are bound by confidentiality provisions. The criminal complaint also references Lindaman's 1975 charge, which resulted in a sealed conviction. Moler acknowledges the challenges ahead for the child and their family but commends their bravery in coming forward.

Kansas passes controversial bills limiting LGBTQ+ rights.

Kansas lawmakers have passed a bill requiring the state's medical board to revoke the licenses of doctors who provide gender-affirming care to minors. The bill would ban puberty-blocking drugs and hormone therapy for transgender youth. The governor is expected to veto the bill, but supporters do not have the two-thirds majorities in both chambers needed to override a veto. Thirteen other states have enacted similar laws, though federal judges have blocked enforcement of them in Alabama and Arkansas. LGBTQ-rights advocates believe they're seeing a national effort to erase transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming and gender fluid people from American society, at least legally.
