Deadly Monsoon: Over 100 Lives Lost in Two Weeks of Record Rains in Northern India

Record monsoon rains in northern India have caused massive flooding, road collapses, and collapsed homes, resulting in over 100 deaths and more than 100 injuries over the past two weeks. Himachal Pradesh state has been the worst hit, with 88 deaths and extensive damage to infrastructure. Other affected areas include Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, and the Indian-controlled section of Kashmir. The heavy rains have led to the evacuation of thousands of people and the conversion of schools into relief camps. Scientists attribute the increasing frequency of such extreme weather events to climate change and global warming.

At least 41 people have died in northern India due to heavy rain and flash floods, with 31 deaths in Himachal Pradesh and 10 deaths in Punjab. Over 2,000 people have been evacuated, and relief efforts are underway to reopen roads affected by landslides. The Dalai Lama's trust will also contribute to the rescue and relief efforts. More rain is expected in the region, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall forecasted until the end of the week.
