Turkish expat votes could sway election results.

Turkish citizens living abroad have begun to cast their votes in the countries they live in and at Turkish border posts, 17 days before Turkey holds pivotal elections. There are 3.4 million registered Turkish voters living outside of the country, which is more than five percent of the total electorate. Recent polls indicate that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his main competitor, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, are neck-and-neck. The votes coming from abroad may tilt the balance in favour of Erdogan, as he polls strongly in Europe, where the bulk of the Turkish immigrants live, who are mostly conservative.

Turkish expats cast votes in critical election.

Over three million Turkish citizens living abroad have started voting in the national elections, which will determine whether President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will continue to govern Turkey after two decades in power. Erdogan's health has been a concern after he cancelled election rallies, but his condition is said to be improving. The biggest contingents of overseas voters include 400,000 Turks in France and 1.5 million in Germany. The latest opinion polls show a slight lead for Erdogan's main challenger, Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
