
Curiosity Encounters Expansive Honeycomb Terrain on Mars
NASA's Curiosity rover has spotted a vast field of tiny polygonal fractures in Valle Grande on Mars, forming a honeycomb-like landscape that climbs a nearby 20-foot-but-tee. The 4–8 cm polygons may result from drying mud, thermal cycling, or compression, and scientists will study the data to determine the exact formation process. The find adds to evidence that ancient Mars hosted water and chemistry capable of supporting life.
