Texas Data Centers Pour $343M into Rural Communities to Counter Growing Political Backlash
Data center firms have invested over $343 million in rural Texas infrastructure, including water systems and schools, to mitigate public opposition. While local officials in towns like Temple and Turkey praise the financial aid, critics argue these gestures are insufficient to address concerns over water usage, land loss, and tax incentives. This strategy coincides with rising political pressure, as outgoing Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller warns that data center backlash could cost Governor Greg Abbott his reelection in the 2026 midterms.
