Quantum Systems Retain a Permanent 'Birthmark' of Their Initial State
Researchers have identified a persistent quantum signature, termed a 'birthmark,' that prevents chaotic quantum systems from fully forgetting their initial conditions. This effect, which enhances the probability of a system returning to its start by at least a factor of two, challenges the standard assumption that quantum thermalization erases all memory of origin.
