Switch 2 update brings Handheld Mode Boost to sharpen older titles

Nintendo’s Switch 2 firmware update 22.0.0 adds Handheld Mode Boost, which prompts many original Switch games to render at 1080p on handheld by running as if in docked mode. The boost isn’t native 1080p for every title, and some games (e.g., Super Mario Maker 2, Skyward Sword HD) aren’t compatible yet. In Boost mode, Joy‑Con 2 behaves like a Pro Controller, disabling motion controls and touchscreen. The update also brings a new loading animation, GameChat features, and other flight-mode and customization tweaks; full patch notes are available from Nintendo.

Microsoft has confirmed that the recent crashing of Google Chrome on Windows 11 is due to the Family Safety parental control feature, which blocks browsers to enforce web filtering. The issue began after Chrome updates and is linked to the browser being added to a block list, with some versions temporarily unblocked during updates. Microsoft is working to ensure all latest browser versions are properly blocked to protect users, especially children under parental controls.
