Alabama and Louisiana suspend dyed diesel penalties to ease harvest costs
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey and Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry have issued directives to halt enforcement of penalties for using tax-exempt dyed diesel in highway vehicles. These measures aim to provide immediate financial relief to agricultural and timber sectors facing record-high fuel costs during peak harvest seasons. While Alabama’s 120-day pause takes effect immediately, Louisiana’s emergency order suspends penalties through October 22, with both states seeking federal penalty relief from the IRS.
