Foldable iPhone May Drop Face ID and Telephoto Cameras

Apple's first foldable iPhone, possibly called iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra, is expected to debut Sept 9 with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup at a premium price. To fit a thin design, it may drop Face ID in favor of Touch ID on the side power button, omit a dedicated telephoto camera in favor of two 48MP sensors, and feature an outer 5.5-inch display with a 7.8-inch internal screen. MagSafe is expected to stay, and the device could ship with eSIM-only connectivity and potentially miss mmWave 5G in some versions; details such as button layout and crease reduction hinge remain speculative.

Apple Re-labels Magic Keyboards with Symbol Glyphs

Apple quietly updated four Magic Keyboard models with glyph-based key labels in the US English layout, replacing edge-text on keys such as tab, caps lock, shift, return, and delete, and, on the full keypad models, home, page up/down, end, clear, and enter. Updated models include the Magic Keyboard, Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, and Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad in both white and black variants; the Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad without Touch ID remains unchanged. The glyph labeling mirrors what Apple uses on its laptops and extends beyond the US layout to other regions.

Apple’s iPhone Ultra tipped to be crease-free with a liquid-metal hinge

Apple’s iPhone Ultra is rumored to debut as a crease-free foldable thanks to a liquid-metal hinge and a flat-fold display stack, delivering a 7.8-inch inner panel with a 4:3 aspect ratio. It reportedly uses a side-mounted Touch ID, an A20 Pro chip on a 2nm process with 12GB RAM, and foldable-friendly software APIs. The device is said to be announced at a Sept. 8–9 keynote and go on sale Sept. 18 at a price above $2,000 (potentially up to $2,500), with supply likely to be limited at launch and production targets around 10 million units based on leaks.

Apple Unveils iPhone 18 Pro and Ultra Foldable, Signals Premium-First Shift

Apple introduces two flagship models: the iPhone 18 Pro, a refined device with a smaller Dynamic Island, a variable-aperture main camera, 24 MP selfie, a new 2nm A20 Pro chip, and larger battery; and the iPhone Ultra, a foldable with dual displays (5.5" outer, 7.8" inner), Touch ID in the power button, dual 48 MP cameras but no telephoto zoom, slim bezels with potential crease durability concerns, starting around $2,000. This marks a premium-first strategy, with no base iPhone 18 until 2027.

Apple's Fold Ultra Leaks Point to a Premium Dual-Screen iPhone Foldable

Leak details and a first hands-on video preview the iPhone Fold Ultra, Apple’s anticipated foldable, which appears to pair a 5.3–5.5-inch outer display with a 7.7–7.8-inch inner screen, a 48MP dual rear camera, and selfie cameras on both panels. Rumors point to Touch ID embedded in the power button, no Face ID, a titanium frame, and an ultra-thin chassis around 4.5–9.5mm with a large 5,400–5,800 mAh battery. Expected to launch in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 series at roughly $2,000, the device could redefine Apple's premium strategy in foldables.

iPhone Ultra to use Touch ID on power button due to space constraints

Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone Ultra is rumored to skip Face ID in favor of Touch ID integrated into the power button. Leaks suggest the decision stems from the phone’s extreme thinness and the need to accommodate two displays, which would require duplicate Face ID components; Touch ID avoids this trade‑off and frees space for other components.

Apple Watch 2026 Bets on Battery Life Over Touch ID, Leaker Claims

A Chinese leaker claims the next Apple Watch models won’t add Touch ID, instead prioritizing larger batteries and advanced health sensors. Unlocking is expected to remain tied to the paired iPhone, and adding a fingerprint sensor would incur extra cost and take space away from battery capacity. Earlier hints of Touch ID were found in old code, but a major design update isn’t anticipated until 2028, with glucose monitoring potentially on the horizon.

Nine upgrades to help the iPhone 18 Pro stand out

A Tom’s Guide opinion piece argues the iPhone 18 Pro must adopt nine upgrades to differentiate itself from rivals: a larger camera sensor, an under‑display camera (and possibly True/Face ID implications), improved zoom, silicon‑carbon batteries for higher energy density, faster charging, stronger durability (potential IP69 rating and better materials), a variable aperture lens, an under‑display Touch ID, and AI enhancements for photography. The piece notes these changes face space and design trade‑offs as Apple aims to outshine foldables while boosting camera performance.

Apple’s Passport-Style iPhone Fold Pushes Foldable Era Forward

Rumored iPhone Fold would be a passport-style foldable with a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen, skipping MagSafe and the action button, relocating volume controls to the top and embedding Touch ID in the side power button; the device reportedly stays around 4.5 mm thick unfolded and aims for a pocketable yet tablet-like experience, but its reception will depend on how users feel about the MagSafe/Face ID trade-offs.

Apple's Foldable iPhone Ultra Reintroduces Touch ID and Relocates Buttons to the Top

Leak images of Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra and iPhone 18 Pro suggest the Ultra reintroduces Touch ID via a right-side power button, with volume controls moved to the top to suit a tablet-like foldable form factor. The iPhone 18 Pro appears largely unchanged from the 17 Pro. The design aims to address foldable ergonomics, but the top-button layout could create new challenges for one-handed use when the device is folded.

Apple’s foldable iPhone to bring back Touch ID via side button

Bloomberg and other rumors say Apple will launch a foldable iPhone around September that uses side‑button Touch ID because the slim front panel can’t fit Face ID; the iPhone Fold is expected to cost about $2,000 and include Dynamic Island with a punch‑hole camera, making it the most expensive iPhone in 2026.

Apple's Foldable iPhone Could Bring iPad-style Multitasking, Without iPad Apps or Face ID

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports Apple’s foldable iPhone will offer an iPad-like multitasking interface with a larger inner display (roughly iPad Mini-sized) and a small outer screen; it reportedly won’t run existing iPad apps, but Apple plans to add a left-side app sidebar and let developers tailor iPhone apps to feel more iPad-like. To fit the thinner front, Face ID could be replaced by side-button Touch ID, with a hole-punch camera instead of a notch, while Dynamic Island remains; the device would have two rear cameras and cost around $2,000.
