NASA's DART Mission Alters Asteroid's Shape
A new study suggests that NASA's DART spacecraft may have reshaped the asteroid Dimorphos when it struck it in 2022, changing its orbit around a larger asteroid. Researchers at the University of Bern used computer simulations to show that the impact likely turned Dimorphos into a weak "rubble pile" asteroid, reshaping its entire body. The European Space Agency's Hera spacecraft, set to launch in October, will further investigate the effects of the impact.
